It has been awhile till I published this article first and Scribd is getting stronger and more useful. Now is being used by some touristic websites to publish brochures that already exist
Scribd makes possible to upload .pdf files and store them online safely, also the .pdf are crawled by google also you can enbleeded in your site so the .pdf can be seen and read without downloading (it does convert in a flash like youtube). You can upload a whole book like this one.
